Understanding

How much does AI know about what you do?

AI recognizing you does not mean it understands you. Many brands have a moderate AIRI™ but a very low KDI™: AI knows they exist but only knows a fraction of their services, does not understand their differential value proposition and cannot describe what makes them better than alternatives. Understanding is what converts visibility into relevance.

Knowledge Depth Index

CORE™ Module

SCAN™ + AIP™

Measures the depth and accuracy of AI's knowledge about your brand: how many of your services, values and differentiators it knows and describes correctly.

KDI™ goes beyond whether AI mentions you — it measures how much it knows about you. It evaluates the depth of the model's knowledge across three layers: services or products (how many and which ones does it know?), value proposition (can it articulate what differentiates you?) and target audience (does it know who you target?).

A brand can have a high AIRI™ and low KDI™ if AI recognizes it in its category but describes only its most basic or surface-level products. This pattern is especially common in companies offering complex B2B services, where the real offering has 8-15 service lines but the model only knows the 2 or 3 with the most content online.

KDI™ improves with AI-specific content strategies: service pages with clear semantic structure, detailed use cases, FAQs with categorization language, and presence in sector authority sources that models prioritize.

Real example

A human resources consultancy offers 9 specialized services. Its KDI™ is 22/100: AI models only know recruitment and training. The other 7 — outplacement, employer branding, talent assessment, assessment centers, compensation and benefits, diversity and inclusion, and executive coaching — are invisible to AI, even though they have been documented on its website for years.

Reference · Scale 0–100

0–25

Invisible

AI barely recognizes you in this dimension. Starting point for any visibility strategy.

26–50

Emerging

Incipient presence, very inconsistent across engines and contexts. AI is starting to pick up some signals.

51–75

Established

Solid presence. AI knows you in most relevant contexts and includes you regularly.

76–100

Reference

AI positions you as an authority source in your category. Spontaneous mention in most relevant responses.
